Council retroactively slashed $1.33 million in rent owed by the Roughriders.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed another Saskatchewan-born offensive lineman.
The CFL team announced Monday it had signed free-agent Brett Boyko, who hails from Saskatoon.
The 28-year-old becomes the sixth O-lineman from the province on the club’s roster, joining Dan Clark (Regina), Logan Ferland (Melfort), Evan Johnson (Regina), Brendon LaBatte (Weyburn) and Mattland Riley (Melfort).
Boyko played collegiately at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The 6-foot-7, 305-pounder was selected by the B.C. Lions in the second round (14th overall) of the 2015 CFL draft, but he signed as an undrafted free agent with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles.
He spent the 2015 season on Philly’s practice roster, then joined the San Diego Chargers for three seasons (2016-18). He started one game for the Chargers during the ’18 season.
In 2019, Boyko joined B.C., and played 15 games for the Lions.
The Roughriders also announced the signing of defensive back Kentrell Brice, who had NFL stints with the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals.
The 6-foot-0, 205-pounder played collegiately at Louisiana Tech.
