On Feb. 19, I know most in Saskatchewan were wondering if we’d see any changes to the current health measures.
The note came that nothing was changing.
Evidently, that wasn’t exactly true. Unbeknownst to some, including the Saskatchewan Hockey Association, the government did indeed relax some rules for pools, ice surfaces, gyms and other large spaces for sport and activity.
The hockey association was taken aback as it wasn’t contacted and on the government website, the rule changes weren’t under arenas and rinks but the changes were listed under pools.
That’s really helpful.
It’s too little too late anyway for many rinks around the province that have already removed the ice, not wanting to take on more expenses.
But when parents and coaches are already frustrated about how the kids have been dealt blow after blow, you’d think the province would be a little more upfront with a bit of relief to increase the number of people allowed to practise.
While these changes aren’t major, they’re something. A lot of coaches will enjoy seeing the faces of their entire team on the ice or on the floor at the same time, rather than in groups of eight.
