Two and a half days into his trial for second-degree murder, Adam Taniskishayinew pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Taniskishayinew, who turned 29 on Thursday, entered the plea Wednesday at Regina’s Court of Queen’s Bench. His trial had started Monday.
Taniskishayinew was arrested in October of 2019 and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Denny Jimmy in June of that year.
On June 11, Jimmy was found dead in a car after what the Regina Police Service initially thought was a single-vehicle crash in the area of Fifth Avenue and Lindsay Street.
Two days later, police revealed the 30-year-old man had been shot to death, prompting a murder investigation.
It was Regina’s fourth murder of 2019.
Taniskishayinew is to be back in court Wednesday at 10 a.m. for sentencing.
