Residents in Coronach are being told to keep their taps shut after a break-in at the town’s water treatment plant was discovered Monday morning.
“We don’t have a lot of information at this point. The doors were possibly pried open, and it’s under investigation,” said Catherine McKay-Wilson, the town’s chief administrative officer.
As a precaution, the town will have to flush the entire system, from the reservoirs to the distribution system and the water tower.
In the meantime, the town is under a do-not-use notice.
“We have to flush the full volume twice so that could take between 24 to 48 hours,” McKay-Wilson said.
“And then once that’s complete, we can retest the water and we will have to send some tests. We are working very closely with (the Water Security Agency) and the RCMP on this.”
She said potable water will be available at the Rockglen Co-op and in Willow Bunch.
A potable water truck will be in town Tuesday morning, she continued.
