The man who drove a car into the Royal Saskatchewan Museum on Feb. 16 is going to jail.
According to a spokesperson at Regina Provincial Court, Okimaw Bear pleaded guilty Monday to one count of dangerous driving and one of theft of a motor vehicle. He was sentenced to 1,053 days in jail and also was given a five-year driving ban.
The 28-year-old Meadow Lake man was arrested Feb. 16 after a stolen car heading south on Albert Street turned east into the museum’s parking lot, went up the lane to the south-facing doors and crashed into the building.
When police arrived, the vehicle’s airbags were deployed and blood was visible on the inside and outside of the car.
There was significant damage done to the museum and the vehicle.
Police found the driver inside the museum and he was arrested after a brief chase on foot.
