A pilot project is now underway at the Regina airport that offers private COVID-19 testing to travellers.
A local company offers both rapid testing as well as PCR tests.
James Bogusz, the CEO of the Regina Airport Authority, said the project is aimed at creating consumer confidence and giving travellers peace of mind.
“Anybody coming to our city, or leaving our city, if they’d like to assure themselves of not having COVID, they’ll now have a choice to basically pay a fee … and do a test right here at the airport in our parking lot at (the company’s) rapid unit,” Bogusz said.
“Maybe you’ve got Grandma and Grandpa coming into town, maybe you’ve got friends visiting, perhaps you’re travelling for essential purposes, and you just want to take that rapid test before you go. (Testers) can give you results in under 30 minutes.”
He said the advantage of private testing is getting prompt results.
According to the company’s website, rapid test results can be done in as little as 15 minutes. For a PCR test, results can be ready in 24 hours.
