Regina police are looking into a possible abduction attempt in Harbour Landing.
On Friday around 8:45 p.m., officers were called to the neighborhood to talk with a 22-year-old woman who said she was approached by a suspicious man as she was walking with two children.
In a news release, police said the man started talking with the woman as she and the kids, aged two and eight, were walking through a park in the area. She said she started to feel concerned when the man started asking her very personal questions.
The man then allegedly picked up the two year old, prompting the woman to pull the child from his arms. As she tried to get him to leave, he continued to walk with the eight year-old. At that point, other people noted the woman’s distress and intervened as she yelled at the child to come back.
The man continued walking away.
This all happened in a park along James Hill road around 7:30 to 7:45 p.m.
“Although no one was physically harmed in this incident, the female victim was very concerned for the safety of the children with her. It may well be that this male had no criminal intentions, but
police would like to learn more about this event if possible,” the release said. “The Regina Police Service wants to make the community aware of this event. At best, it was a frightening experience for the woman and the children with her; at worst, it may have been an overture to an abduction.
“This incident is under investigation.”
The suspect is described as approximately 20 to 30 years old, between 5’11’’ and 6’0’’ feet tall with a thin build. He is described as having a dark complexion, brown eyes, and a short
scruffy beard.
He was wearing a black hoodie pulled up over his head, black sweatpants and black shoes. The victim said the man spoke with an accent, but she could not be more specific.
Anyone who has information that could assist in this investigation is asked to contact police at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
