This is all a part of REAL’s 2.0 strategic plan that was recently approved with the City Centre Core Partnership Framework, as well as plans endorsed by city council in 2020.
Gerry Fischer, the vice-president of commercial development at REAL, thinks business owners will look at the land as a unique opportunity.
“Today is about announcing our formal partnership with our local real estate partners, Colliers Regina, and it is also about announcing to interested private partners that we are open to discussions and actively looking for partners that want to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that makes Regina an even better place to call home,” Fischer said.
“We have been working through a very detailed process for almost three years.”
REAL president and CEO Tim Reid described the announcement as the next phase in a lengthy process.
“Last year, we presented to city council our 2.0 strategic plan which talked about the commercialization of about 10 acres of land on our existing site,” Reid said. “Today, this announcement was really the formal announcement that Colliers is our partner and that they are open to interested parties.
“We talk about building an exciting year-round district here at Evraz Place. This was kind of our public launch of that process.”
Recreation centres, restaurants and hotels are just a few of the many things that Reid says could be a possibility for the land moving forward.
“I’m optimistic that we’ll get to transition from a level of interest to leases happening over the course of the next probably six months,” Reid said. “I see work happening as early as this spring and I think it’ll continue for the next number of years.
“We think we have the ability to create something really special right at the heart of our city.”
