Saskatchewan truckers will join in on a cross-border COVID-19 vaccine agreement between Manitoba and North Dakota.
Manitoba and North Dakota have agreed to vaccinate truckers crossing the Canada-U.S. border at a site along a route between Winnipeg and North Dakota cities like Fargo.
Speaking to Gormley on Wednesday, Premier Scott Moe said truckers from Saskatchewan will also be eligible for jabs, courtesy of the Americans.
“We’re hopeful that’ll happen in the next few days. As we said, we wanted to get it up. Step 1: Keep the planning clean and very clear and then start to add to it,” Moe said.
Moe said he has been in contact with North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and believes the vaccination site will open on Wednesday.
He said a second one is in the works, to go south of North Portal, possibly in two weeks.
“We’re hopeful that we’d be able to expand that to some degree, understanding there’s a number of other essential workers that use that border crossing,” Moe said.
“For instance … there’s a number of energy workers that will be back and forth, working with companies on both sides of the border.”
