The Canadian Football League took 14 months but it has finally learned the more transparent you are to your fans, the better.
Previously, CFL officials told fans they had a lot of hope to play or they’re talking about talking with the XFL.
All this led to was frustration and speculation.
But on Wednesday, there shouldn’t have been any of those things. The CFL was crystal clear.
The league gave us a new start date. It said what it needs to have it happen. Now, that crystal did have a little fog when it comes to what a “significant amount of fans” means when it comes to needing fans in the stands.
Oh, and why Aug. 5 as a start date? It’s the league’s best guess as to when rules will be relaxed enough based on conversations with various provinces.
On the Green Zone, commissioner Randy Ambrosie even told us league officials need to know by mid-June if provincial governments are close to easing restrictions and some teams can have fans in the stands or they’ll have to delay the start of the season again.
There is little guesswork now and fans don’t have to wait and wait for the CFL. Instead, they’ll be watching provincial health measures a little closer over the next two months.
