The number of COVID-19 cases reported in Saskatchewan since the pandemic started went over the 40,000 mark Monday.
The Ministry of Health said there were 245 new cases around the province, pushing the total since last March to 40,177.
Vaccinations also reached a milestone, with the latest 3,639 shots given increasing the total number of doses administered in the province to 403,384.
There was one new death reported Monday. A person in their 60s from the far northwest zone became the 476th Saskatchewan resident to die from the virus.
A look at the numbers
The latest new cases were reported in the Regina (80), Saskatoon (39), south-central (32), southeast (25), central-east (20), northwest (17), far northwest (10), north-central (nine), southwest (eight), central-west (four) and northeast (one) zones.
There were 178 new cases of variants of concern identified by screening, hiking the total to date to 6,204.
The Regina region has reported 3,511 variant cases, with the southeast (644) and Saskatoon (639) regions also recording more than 600 each.
The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases is 251, which translates to 20.5 per 100,000 population.
There were 221 recoveries reported Monday, increasing that total so far to 37,163. There are 2,538 cases that are considered active in the province.
Of the 187 people in Saskatchewan hospitals, 45 are in intensive care. Of those, 27 are in the Regina region, 11 are in the Saskatoon area, three are in the central-east zone and two are in each of the northwest and north-central areas.
The 3,122 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Sunday moved that total to date to 756,301.
Vaccination update
The most-recent doses were administered in the Saskatoon (1,704), north-central (452), northwest (440), Regina (411), southeast (210), central-east (86), southwest (60), south-central (54), far north-central (30), northeast (23), central-west (20), far northwest (10) and far northeast (three) zones.
The hometowns of 136 recipients weren’t reported.
According to the government, 57 per cent of Saskatchewan residents over the age of 40 now have received their first doses. Thirty-eight per cent of those 18 and over have been given their first shot.
The vaccination pilot project involving pharmacies is set to start this week, as vaccines are to be delivered starting Thursday.
