The Canadian Football League isn’t the only one waiting on federal and provincial health measures to be relaxed.
The National Hockey League is putting contingency plans together for its final four. Of course, everyone is playing within their divisions thanks to the quarantine rules for those coming into Canada.
So what happens when the North Division has decided its winner in June and that team has to play one of the three division winners down south?
Could we see Toronto or Edmonton or Winnipeg have to play out of a U.S. city? Possibly. Will there be a final four bubble so all is fair? Another possibility. But with 23 of the 24 U.S. markets allowing fans in the stands, the NHL won’t want to lose the tiny bit of gate revenue it’s getting.
Like the CFL, the NHL has until around June to make the call on what to do next.
But get ready to see the winner of the North forced to head south to continue its road to the Stanley Cup.
