As more vaccine doses arrive in Saskatchewan, another person has died and more than 200 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the province with the Regina area once again counting the highest number of those.
A shipment of more than 30,000 Pfizer doses has arrived and is being distributed to the northwest, north-central and central-east zones as well as Regina and Saskatoon. On Thursday, more than 18,000 Moderna doses are expected.
There were 6,218 doses administered since the last update from the province, with 1,605 given in Saskatoon, 1,313 in Regina, 592 in the southeast, 530 in the northwest, 487 in north-central, 411 in central-east, 238 in northeast, 220 in central-west, 190 in the southwest, 130 in the far northwest, 112 in the far northeast, 70 in south-central, and two in the far north-central zone.
There were 318 doses administered to people for whom their hometowns are being determined.
The percentages of Saskatchewan people who have a first vaccine dose continues to grow. They are now at:
· Over 80 per cent for those over age 60
· 60 per cent for those who are 40+
· 40 per cent of those who are 18+
Daily increase in cases still in triple digits
There are 205 new cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 73 of those in the Regina zone.
Saskatoon has 32 new cases while there are 24 in the southeast, 16 in the far northwest, 13 in south-central, and 11 each in the northwest and central-east zones. In the southwest, there are nine new cases, four in north-central, three in the northeast, two in central-west and one in the far northeast. The hometowns of six cases are to be determined.
Currently, there are 2,408 active cases and a total of 40,824 cases in Saskatchewan during the pandemic. The seven-day average of new COVID-19 case number is 239 (19.5 new cases per 100,000).
Screening has found 6,572 cases of variants of concern with 3,632 being found in Regina and another 730 in Saskatoon.
Another 3,306 COVID-19 tests were processed on Wednesday, bringing the total number processed in the province to 765,871.
The number of new recoveries is at 244 for a total of 37,929.
One person in the 80-plus age group in the northwest zone has died of COVID-19.
In hospital, there are 186 people, with 38 of those needing intensive care. Twenty-two of those in the ICU are in Regina. Another 10 are in Saskatoon’s ICU.
