John Tortorella is a free agent looking for work.
It’s the same position he found himself in more than six years ago when he had his one-and-done season in Vancouver.
Back then, Tortorella looked like damaged goods. The public perception was a hostile, loose cannon whose time had passed him by.
When he was hired in Columbus, it felt like a risky move for the Blue Jackets. However, it paid off for both Torts and Columbus.
The Blue Jackets made the playoffs for four straight seasons after only having two playoff appearances in their previous 14 seasons. Tortorella built up his reputation to a respected hockey coach who gets the most out of his team.
And a team that could use John Tortorella is the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres are now perennial losers like the Jackets were before Tortorella arrived.
It’s time the Sabres hired a coach who actually demands a lot more from his players and doesn’t care if you’re Jack Eichel or Riley Sheahan.
