Regina city council is making changes to some speed limits in the city.
Council voted in favour of making technical changes to its traffic bylaw at a meeting Wednesday.
The speed limit on Arcola Avenue near Chuka Boulevard will drop from 80 kilometres per hour to 70.
The report given by city administration to council indicated a lower speed limit there would be more appropriate for that area. It also may reduce the risk of preventable collisions in the area.
Dewdney Avenue will also see a speed reduction. It will be reduced from 80 km/h to 70 km/h from Pinkie Road to 200 metres west of Fleming Road.
In the report given to council, the Ministry of Highways recommended the change to maintain consistency with bypass ramp speeds.
Council also added clarification to what “school days” mean when it comes to parking enforcement. The bylaw will now describe school days as any weekday between Sept. 1 and June 30, not including holidays.
The Highway 1 Bypass near Victoria Avenue will now be called Highway 1A.
Council approved changing the bylaw so vehicles can no longer stop within 10 metres of a pedestrian ramp at a T intersection. This is to ensure pedestrians have proper access to the ramps and have appropriate sightlines.
Recreation vehicles will no longer be permitted to park on a street for more than two hours within 30 metres of a street intersection or painted crosswalk.
