Students are safe after a Regina high school was put into lockdown when a teenaged girl showed another student what appeared to be a firearm tucked into the waistband of her pants Wednesday morning.
Police said they were called to a school in the 5200 block of Rochdale Boulevard at 10:40 a.m. Winston Knoll Collegiate is at 5255 Rochdale Blvd.
The patrol officers, along with the school resource officer on scene, took the girl into custody and seized the weapon, which turned out to be a CO2 pellet gun.
When officers arrived, the school was already in lockdown, which means everyone in the school is secured in assigned areas and all regular school activities are paused.
The teenaged girl has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon and will appear in youth court on Thursday morning. She cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Regina police did not specify her exact age.
