Tonight’s Game 7 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens will be one for the ages.
Heck, it has been 42 years in the making after the Leafs and Canadiens have avoided each other in the playoffs for not just one generation but three or four.
The storyline will be either Carey Price and Montreal shock the world or, in Toronto, the Leafs’ playoff misery continues.
If the Leafs win, well, they were supposed to!
We’re not supposed to be in a Game 7. The Leafs had the chance to end it in five and then again in six and failed each time. And it hasn’t been Jack Campbell letting them down. Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and even head coach Sheldon Keefe share much more of the blame as to why the Leafs are in a Game 7 tonight.
Of course we’ve already been shocked in the North Division with the Edmonton Oilers getting swept.
However, the Leafs losing to Montreal should be considered far more humiliating. That’s likely why, with the Leafs’ sorry playoff history, some in Leaf Nation are almost expecting a loss tonight.
