Yes, another spring league is trying to bring in that elusive spring football audience that different business people have tried to find.
The USFL couldn’t do it. XFL 1.0 couldn’t do it. The Alliance of American Football couldn’t do it. XFL 2.0 might have been the closest to finding it of all of them until COVID-19 ended that dream.
The people behind USFL 2.0 are some of the same who have run the Spring League over the last few years. While they have FOX on board, there is already talk about how this impacts the CFL-XFL rumoured partnership. Will it spark an acceleration as XFL 3.0 wasn’t going to start up again until 2023?
It’s another reason I hope the CFL is walking cautiously into this. Becoming business partners with people who are trying something that has never worked in spring football has never won me over as a brilliant idea, no matter how many Instagram followers Dwayne Johnson has.
