For the second time in four days, Saskatchewan has reported fewer than 90 new COVID-19 cases.
In Friday’s update, the Ministry of Health said there were 89 new cases. There were 86 new cases reported Tuesday.
The seven-day average of daily new cases dropped to 129, or 10.5 per 100,000 population.
The ministry also reported 133 new cases of variants of concern and 111 recoveries. There weren’t any new deaths announced for the first time in 10 days.
There were 15,633 vaccinations done in Saskatchewan in the latest reporting period, including a single-day record of 10,567 second doses. As a result, 112,742 residents of the province now are considered fully vaccinated.
A look at the numbers
The latest cases were reported in the Saskatoon (20), far northeast (13), Regina (12), south-central (11), northwest (nine), north-central (six), central-east (five), southeast (five), far northwest (four), northeast (two) and central-west (one) zones. The hometown of one case is pending.
The total number of cases to date in Saskatchewan is 47,186.
There have been 11,119 variants of concern identified by screening in Saskatchewan, with 4,686 of those reported in the Regina region.
Of the 5,879 variant cases with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing in Saskatchewan, 5,656 are the U.K. strain, 181 are the Brazilian mutation, 32 are the Indian variant and 10 are the South African strain.
To date, there have been 45,351 recoveries reported in Saskatchewan. The number of active cases dropped under 1,300 again, to 1,292.
There are 80 people with COVID receiving inpatient care in Saskatchewan hospitals and 21 patients in intensive care — the lowest the number of ICU cases has been since there were 20 on March 5.
The current ICU patients are in the Saskatoon (10), Regina (six), central-east (two), southwest (two) and north-central (one) zones. There are two people from Manitoba being treated in this province.
There were 2,599 COVID-19 tests done in Saskatchewan on Thursday.
Vaccination update
To date, 770,463 COVID vaccinations have been done in Saskatchewan.
The latest shots were given in the Regina (4,632), Saskatoon (4,446), southeast (1,185), central-east (1,041), north-central (889), south-central (877), southwest (551), northeast (439), northwest (358), central-west (351), far northwest (301), far northeast (253) and far north-central (four) zones.
Doses were given to 306 people whose hometowns are being determined.
