It’s not technically summer yet, but it sure feels like it in Saskatchewan.
With COVID-19 restrictions starting to lift, the province is getting closer to normal. But even at the height of the pandemic, there was at least one thing that never changed: There are only so many hot days in a year.
The sun has been shining quite a bit to start off the month; multiple weather records have been broken this week.
Many people are not letting the weather go to waste.
980 CJME spent Friday morning chatting with folks in Regina who were enjoying the heat in their own way.
A pair of women were wandering through the east side of Wascana Park, near the University of Regina. They were checking out all the different wildlife and plants.
“We’re both animal and nature lovers, so it’s always nice to go and geek out with a friend who feels the same way,” one said.
The two saw a mink, pelicans, a huge dragonfly and plenty of flowers.
“I live 2 1/2 blocks away, and I haven’t been here in a couple of months … We really need to get out and enjoy this a lot more. It’s so good for us,” she continued.
Another woman was taking a leisurely stroll nearby.
“It’s nice just to get out and forget about all of the worries around you and just lose yourself in nature. It’s so important to find joy every day,” she said.
“It helps to relax when you’re out and about.”
Others were taking advantage of the weather by spending time with their furry friends.
Quite a few people made their way to the dog park.
“For him, at least, it’s pretty nice,” one man said of his dog. “I’m going to be pretty hot, but I’ve got some water. He’s happy, I’m happy. A win-win.”
And another man was using the fresh air as a cure.
“I’m just trying to get rid of this hangover, to tell you the truth,” he said.
