Jamie Nye: Paul-Mayweather hopefully marks the death of the exhibition fight

If you were someone who paid good money to watch Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight Logan Paul and are living to regret it, I have a message: What did you think was going to happen?

Now, I was hoping both men landed a simultaneous punch and knocked each other out, but I also wasn’t going to spend money on a fight that pitted a YouTuber against a retired boxing vet, who gave up several inches in height and reach to make a few dozen millions.

Do I think Mayweather hurt his legacy? No.

Do I think Paul earned some respect? No.

Do I think you wasted your money? Absolutely.

But what I also hope comes out of this gimmick fight is the death of the gimmick fight. Give the attention to the real fighters and not YouTubers and retirees looking to make a dime.

And if you agree with me, it’s time we put our money where our mouths are and support actual boxing and not the bank accounts of Logan and Jake Paul.
