People all over Regina had to contend with rising water on Friday morning — and not just those trying to get from Point A to Point B.
Dunsmore Drive in the northwest flooded out, but it wasn’t surprising for homeowners like Jon Paul.
“We always get this. Every rainfall, it just floods out on our street here,” said Paul.
He was armed with a rake and was heading to the street corner to clear out the catch basins and get more drainage. Paul had actually left work to come home and deal with the water that was right up to his door.
Paul said he had called the city about the problem before but it still happens.
Tracey Hincks lives on the same street and she was pretty frustrated about the water.
“It’s an ongoing issue in this area; they’ve upgraded some of the drains and it hasn’t helped,” Hincks said. “I’ve lived here 20-plus years and it still continues. They repaved the road and it all slants toward these houses that are down the block here, including my yard where it goes right up to the houses in some areas.”
She said she’d contacted the city a couple different ways Friday morning to come and help.
“They came out here, got out of their van and actually couldn’t do anything. I asked for some barricades because when people drive through here, it’s like a tidal wave and it makes it even worse,” said Hincks.
Hincks said she wouldn’t be going anywhere on Friday and was planning to keep an eye on the water, worried that it would get into her basement.
“I’m just praying I don’t get water and nobody needs an ambulance,” said Hincks.
City crews may not have been able to do anything on Dunsmore Drive, but Simon Enoch on Montague Street said the city was able to help with the “swimming pool” that had developed in front of his house.
“All we know is that eventually the water started receding and once it did to a certain extent, a lot of our neighbours and myself went out and cleared what was left of the debris and that allowed all the water to run out,” said Enoch.
Flooding has happened before on Enoch’s street but he’d never seen it get that close to his front steps before.
“We were certainly worried that perhaps our basement would be filling with water but besides a few small leaks, everything looks great,” said Enoch.
