An arrest has been made in the murder of an Estevan man whose body was found in his home June 7.
In a media release Thursday, the RCMP said 41-year-old Gurwinder Singh Toor of Estevan had been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Angelo Galido’s death.
The investigation involved the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit North, the Estevan Police Service, the Yorkton RCMP Forensic Identification Section, the Airdrie RCMP General Investigation Sections and the Calgary Police Service.
“The charges laid in this multi-jurisdictional file is the result of extensive collaboration between many police services and units — from the RCMP in two provinces, (and the) Estevan and Calgary Police Services,” Supt. Vince Foy, the officer in charge of the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit North, said in the release.
“When investigative files cross provincial borders, it’s through these critical collaborative efforts that an investigation comes together. The arrest and charges laid speaks to the extensive work of all involved partners bringing a multitude of experiences, tools and expertise.”
Galido, 55, was last seen alive at a business off Highway 39 on June 4 at approximately 10 p.m., and investigators tried to determine where he had been from that night until his body was discovered June 7.
The Mounties said Toor was arrested at a business in Calgary on Wednesday. They say he and Galido knew each other, but didn’t elaborate.
Toor appeared in court in Airdrie, Alta., on Thursday. He’s to appear in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday via video.
