Saskatchewan’s up-and-down daily total of new COVID-19 cases was up again Thursday.
The Ministry of Health reported 94 new infections — twice as many as were announced Tuesday.
The province also said there were 70 recoveries, 60 new cases of variants of concern and 15,402 new vaccinations. The immunizations included 12,404 second doses and 2,998 first shots.
The province remains one percentage point shy of its vaccination target to set a date for Step Three of its Re-Opening Roadmap.
As of Thursday, 69 per cent of people aged 18 and over have received a first dose; the province will set a date for Step Three when it reaches 70 per cent.
As well, 68 per cent of people aged 12 and over have received their first shot.
There weren’t any new deaths reported, but one was removed from Saskatchewan’s total. It now stands at 561.
The number of active cases being reported in Saskatchewan went up by 26 to 752.
A look at the numbers
The new cases reported Thursday were in the Saskatoon (25), central-west (11), Regina (nine), northwest (nine), north-central (seven), south-central (seven), northeast (five), far northwest (four), southeast (four), southwest (three), central-east (two) and far northeast (one) zones. The residences of seven cases are being determined.
The new cases, along with a previous positive case that hadn’t been included in the total, increased the province’s total number of cases so far to 48,220. That includes 11,847 cases of variants of concern.
The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases is 75, or 6.1 per 100,000. There have been 46,907 recoveries reported to date.
There are 87 COVID patients in Saskatchewan hospitals, the lowest that figure has been since there were 85 on Nov. 20.
The current hospitalizations include nine intensive care cases — six in Saskatoon and three in Regina. The province’s total hasn’t been that low since it was eight on Nov. 9; Regina’s total hasn’t been that low since it also was three on Dec. 26.
The 2,301 COVID tests done in the province on Wednesday increased the total to date to 895,631.
Vaccination update
So far, 937,737 COVID vaccinations have been done in Saskatchewan, while 239,760 people have received two doses and are considered fully vaccinated.
The latest shots were given in the Saskatoon (4,545), Regina (4,478), north-central (1,423), central-east (1,051), northwest (891), southeast (875), south-central (479), southwest (324), northeast (318), central-west (295), far northwest (225), far northeast (132) and far north-central (eight) zones.
The hometowns of 358 recipients are pending.
