The friendly rivalry of Regina versus Saskatoon will be put to the test over the next two weeks after Regina Mayor Sandra Masters challenged Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark on which city will get more first COVID-19 vaccinations.
The competition between the two cities will be ongoing from today through June 30.
The stakes are high for whichever mayor loses, as they will have to lip sync a song on video selected by the winning city.
“The SHA came up with the idea for the two cities to challenge each other starting from today to the end of the month,” Masters said on the Greg Morgan Morning Show. “I don’t even want to talk about what will happen if we lose because we are not going to lose.”
Bring it on, Saskatoon! In the spirit of community, health, and friendly competition, I, Mayor Sandra Masters, challenge…

Hey #yxe – I know we can beat Regina to the finish line on First Dose vaccinations!
I am sure Mayor Masters will do a fine lip sync when we come out on top.

To date, 69 per cent of people 18 and over in the province have received their first shot — one percentage point shy of the target for Step Three of the Re-Opening Roadmap.
Figures provided by the Ministry of Health in its COVID update have shown the province is about 9,600 first doses short of its target. The province needs about 28,000 people 12 and over to get their first shot to remove its mandatory mask order and limitations on gathering sizes.
Over the past week, an average of just under 2,900 first doses have been administered per day.
Masters hopes the challenge between the two cities will help incite some people to roll up their sleeves.
People can still make vaccination appointments online or by phone (1-833-727-5829), or by attending drive-thru or walk-in clinics. They also can get a shot at a participating pharmacy.
