Government House is getting ready to welcome back visitors once again.
On Sunday, tours will begin again, but the Provincial Capital Commission (PCC) says guest safety is a priority.
All visits will be pre-booked and will have protocols in place including mandatory mask use and physical distancing. A maximum of eight people from the same social circle will be allowed for outdoor garden tours and six for indoor tours.
“With the return of tours occurring at Government House, Saskatchewan residents can once again plan a visit and learn more about Saskatchewan’s history and heritage,” said Don McMorris, Minister Responsible for the PCC, in a news release. “The location is both Provincial Heritage Property and National Historic site, and is home to the beautiful Edwardian Gardens.”
Government House offers many types of exhibits — both permanent and temporary.
The current art exhibit is called “From La Ronge: Get To Know Us” which features work from 19 artists that provides a glimpse into what makes La Ronge special.
The new feature exhibit is called, Rehab – Rest – Recreation, Government House Convalescent Period from 1945 to 1957.
The province said the exhibit profiles a little-known period in Government House history. In 1945, Government House became a rest home for returning Second World War veterans. Through interactive displays, including a miniature putting green, guests gain an appreciation of what life was like in the convalescent home.
