Police say a storm on Wednesday led to three canoes capsizing on Amisk Lake, killing one man.
Creighton RCMP received a complaint about the canoes being capsized on the south side of the lake around 6:10 p.m. Six men were reported to be in the water.
RCMP said the investigation revealed the six men were on a canoe trip and were crossing Amisk Lake — located southwest of Creighton.
A large storm moved in and large waves caused all three canoes to capsize around 3:30 p.m. Police say the six men stayed with the canoes and floated until they were in cell phone range. They then called 9-1-1 using a cell phone that was stored in a waterproof container.
Creighton RCMP, the Flin Flon RCMP Detachment, Ministry of Environment Conservation Officers and members of the public located the group around 7:30 p.m. using the GPS coordinates from that 9-1-1 call.
One of the men was unconscious when police located him. He was transported to hospital but was pronounced dead. The 48-year-old man was from Saskatoon and his family has been notified.
The other five men were taken to hospital in Flin Flon for assessment.
