I know it’ll be hard to convince Boston Bruins fans or Toronto Maple Leafs fans, but there is so much to like about the Montreal Canadiens’ run to the Stanley Cup final.
It starts with Carey Price. He has been considered the best goaltender in the NHL for a long time and he’s now finally going to get a chance to shine on the biggest stage. He’s a calm, kind, well-respected player who is among the best active players who have never won the Cup.
Then closely behind Price is captain Shea Weber, also chasing his first Stanley Cup that would only add to an already Hall of Fame career.
But young guns like Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Jesperi Kotkaniemi also are endearing themselves to casual fans with their speed and scoring touch.
If your team is out of the playoffs, you might as well cheer for the best story and it’s hard to top the 16th-ranked team of the final 16, which fought off three elimination games, and is a likeable group of underdogs.
It’s a bonus if you’re hoping to see Gary Bettman hand a trophy over to a Canadian team again.
