A 34-year-old Indian Head man has been charged in connection with an incident that prompted three Regina schools to go into “secure the building” mode Thursday.
According to Regina police, officers were sent just after 2 p.m., to a house in the 6600 block of Wheatly Bay in the city’s northwest. A caller said a man allegedly had assaulted a woman and pointed a firearm at a man.
The two victims left the house, but another woman stayed inside. The suspect and the victims know each other.
As officers established a perimeter and attempted to talk the suspect out of the house, W.H. Ford, Centennial and St. Jerome schools went into “secure-the-building” mode. Outside doors were locked, activities were conducted inside and students were dismissed at the end of the school day in a controlled manner.
Early in the evening, the SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called in and the man eventually was taken into custody without incident at about 6:30 p.m. A handgun/air pistol was recovered.
The man is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm and breach of an undertaking. He made his first court appearance Friday.
