Officials in Ontario are reporting 179 new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, along with eight new deaths linked to the virus.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says 32 of the latest infections are in Waterloo, 27 are in Grey Bruce and 23 are in Toronto.
She says the province administered 207,507 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, for a total of more than 16,800,000 since the launch of the immunization drive.
The latest figures come a day after Ontario announced it would enter Stage 3 of reopening on July 16, several days ahead of schedule, due to high vaccination rates and low COVID-19 case counts.
