A 23-year-old Regina man charged in connection with a bomb scare at an east Regina Superstore made his first court appearance Monday.
Kyle Poag is facing seven charges, including delivering an explosive, making an explosive substance with intent thereby to endanger life, and uttering a threat.
On Friday at about 10:50 a.m., Regina police received a call from a person in the 2000 block of Prince of Wales Drive reporting a possible explosive device at the Superstore.
Explosive disposal units from the Regina Police Service and the RCMP were called and found what police called “items dangerous to the public” in a vehicle in the parking lot and in the store, according to a police media release issued Saturday.
“Due to public safety concerns a portion of Victoria Avenue East was shut down while a team of (explosive disposal unit) members worked to make the vehicle safe,” the release said.
A second team was called in to remove “an item” before taking it to a secure location and destroying it.
During Poag’s appearance by phone Monday, court heard those items were a pipebomb and a Molotov cocktail.
The Crown opposed Poag’s release and asked for a mental health assessment. He was remanded in custody and is to appear again Friday at 2 p.m.
