The pandemic has been a long, tough time for many people, and kids are no different.
But now that restrictions have been lifted and Saskatchewan is seeing another heat wave, youngsters have plenty of chances to have fun and make new friends.
980 CJME took a trip to Wascana Park and found a group of kids having an absolute blast.
Jules Chamberlin, 12, and his friends were taking kayak lessons and doing other water activities at the Wascana Racing Canoe Club.
His favourite part is the feeling of adventure.
“Just exploring, seeing where the islands are. I saw a couple of turtles too, and I saw a couple of little baby ducks,” he said.
It’s a blast for him, but there are a few tough trials and tribulations that pop up.
“When I take off my shoes, the sand is really hot. When I go on the cement, it hurts, then I have to put my shoes back on. Then, if I want to go in the water, I have to take off my shoes again,” he said.
He’s in the early stages of learning how to use boats, and some mistakes still pop up here and there — but that’s not always a bad thing.
“(I fall in), like, every time …,” Chamberlin said. “Everyone says it’s easy, but it is hard.”
One of the girls in the group was particularly happy to see other kids after missing out during the pandemic.
“Just being in the water and somewhere different, not cooped up inside … It’s nice to socialize,” she said.
