Nine 20-year veterans with Regina Fire and Protective Services are to be awarded for exemplary service to the city.
The firefighters will be honoured with Fire Exemplary Service Medals awarded by His Honour the Honourable Russ Mirasty, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.
A ceremony at Government House to mark the occassion will be held Thursday, July 22, 2021.
The officers being recognized include Deputy Chief Gord Hewitt, Assistant Chief Don Kistner, Senior, Captain Curtis Nagel, Retired Captain Darren Boyer, Retired Captain Bob Sax, Captain Myles Seifert, Captain Lindsay Tolley, Lieutenant Leonard Milo and Inspector Lyle Derkson.
Exemplary service is characterized by good conduct, diligence and efficiency, which serves as a model for others to follow, according to a press release issued by the City of Regina.
Regina Fire Chief Layne Jackson said the city is fortunate to have these individuals serving the Regina community as leaders.
“Regina Fire members educate, protect and save lives,” Jackson said. “Through their actions and service, they exemplify the highest level of professionalism while keeping our community safe.”
Recipients of the award must have completed at least two decades of full-time service with one or more recognized Canadian fire services.
