Fifty three new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Saskatchewan Wednesday — the highest single-day increase in new cases and the first time more than 50 cases have been reported in a day since 114 cases were reported July 8, 2021.
Another 5,413 doses of the vaccine have also been administered in the province.
No new deaths were reported and 276 cases of the virus are now active in Saskatchewan.
A look at the numbers
About half of the newly reported cases (24) are located in the far northwest. The remaining cases are located in the northwest (nine), Saskatoon (five), Regina (four), far north central (two), far northeast (two), north central (one), south central (one) and southwest (one). One case was reassigned to the north central zone.
To date, there have been 49,525 cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan and 575 deaths.
There have been 48,674 recoveries in the province.
In hospital, Saskatchewan has 59 patients, with 49 receiving inpatient care: Saskatoon (18), Regina (15), north central (eight), northwest (five), central east (one), south central (one), and southeast (one).
Ten patients are in intensive care units: Regina (four), Saskatoon (four), north central (one) and northwest (one).
The seven-day average of new cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan is 30.
A total of 947,300 COVID-19 tests have been processed in the province, with 1,683 of those processed Tuesday.
No new lineage results for variants of concern (VOC) were reported Wednesday. Of the 7,961 VOCs reported, 505 have been the Delta variant.
Vaccination update
A total of 1,358,720 vaccines have been administered in Saskatchewan.
Newly reported doses were administered to residents living in Regina (1,662), Saskatoon (1,249), north central (641), northwest (473), southeast (324), central east (317), northeast (148), southwest (119), central west (99), south central (94), far northwest (60), far northeast (37), and far north central (three). Zone of residence was marked pending on 187 new doses.
Sixty per cent of Saskatchewan residents at or over the age of 12 are fully vaccinated, and 74 per cent have received their first dose.
