“Randomly, this anonymous letter showed up at our office and within it was a story of somebody that fell on some hard times and made the difficult decision to take a little bit of cash at the gates at some of our events,” Tim Reid, the CEO of REAL said on the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Tuesday. “Obviously, they felt guilty about it for a number of years and wanted to take care of that debt.
“They sent $230 in cash and an apology, I think we were all amazed by this.”
Reid says REAL has no idea who the employee could be or when exactly the money would have been stolen.
“All we know is that the individual was falling on hard times, was challenged to make ends meet, and was coming up on the Christmas holiday season,” Reid said. “They made the decision to take some money.
“Obviously, we don’t condone those actions, but we also want to recognize that somebody made the effort many years later to take care of something that they had done.”
Reid says this money will be donated to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan and that he hopes the individual who had taken the money is in a much better place today.
“I think in my entire career, I’ve never seen anything like it,” Reid said. “I think they set an example for all of us that it doesn’t matter how many years later, or how long after you do something, you can always bring things to a close in a really positive way.”
