Jamie Nye: The Canadiens found a way to make themselves look worse

The Montreal Canadiens news release from owner Geoff Molson on Wednesday may have actually been worse than drafting Logan Mailloux. He’s the young man who shared a sexually explicit photo of a female without permission to teammates and friends online.
Molson’s apology was a weak attempt for the owner to distance himself from the decision he would have signed off on.
First off, they released the statement in the first hour of free agent frenzy, which is the busiest of the NHL season. It doesn’t take a genius to see they were trying to get this story buried among the dozens of signings and millions of dollars being spent.
Then they say they won’t have Mailloux compete in rookie or main training camp. They want to work with him to earn a second chance. Bottom line is they hope after a year they hope the story will go away.
But the last line was the most telling when they thanked their partners and sponsors for showing their dismay at the selection.
Yep, as always, the pick could have impacted the money and when that happens, it’s interesting how quickly an organization finds their moral compass.
