The province is ending its daily update of COVID-19 new cases and vaccinations starting next week.
In a news releases, the province said the daily updates which have been happening since March 2020 will become weekly updates following the August long weekend.
“As COVID-19 moves from pandemic to endemic, the Ministry of Health continues to monitor all key indicators necessary to respond to COVID-19 in the province. Starting Tuesday, Aug. 3, the COVID-19 vaccination and case news release will become weekly, summarizing the vaccination and case information,” an update from the province read.
The COVID-19 dashboard, which contains a breakdown of vaccinations, case information, locations and hospitalizations, will continue to be published seven days a week.
New cases
In it’s daily COVID-19 update, the province said there were 52 new cases in Saskatchewan Thursday.
The new cases are located in the following zones: far northwest (nine), far north-central (two), far northeast (three), northwest (six), north-central (four), northeast (two), Saskatoon (nine), central-east (one), Regina (six), southeast (five).
Five cases are without hometown information. One case previously without a hometown was assigned to the Regina zone.
An additional 15 cases tested out of the provinces were added to the following zones: far northwest (six), far northeast (one), northwest (four), Saskatoon (two), and central-west (two).
No new deaths were reported Wednesday. The total number of COVID-19 deaths remains at 578.
There is a total of 49,882 cases with 48,892 cases considered recovered and 412 cases considered active. On July 21, there were 276 active cases, representing a rise of 136 cases in eight days.
The last time Saskatchewan had over 400 active cases was on July 8.
There are 43 people in hospital — 34 are receiving inpatient care in the far northwest (one) northwest (two) north-central (four) Saskatoon (15), Regina (11) and southeast (one).
Nine people are in intensive care in the north-central (one) Saskatoon (five) and Regina (three) zones.
The seven-day average of new COVID-19 case number has risen to 44, 41, or 3.7 new cases per 100,000.
Vaccination update
An additional 6,019 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 1,400,844.
Vaccines were given in the far northwest (174), far north-central (six), far northeast (80), northwest (403), north-central (356), northeast (403), Saskatoon (1,603), central-west (355), central-east (334), Regina (1,357), southwest (99), south-central (169) and southeast (472) zones.
There were 208 doses administered without a known hometown.
Seventy-five per cent of those 12 and older have received their first dose and 63 per cent of those 12 and older are fully vaccinated, according to the provincial daily update.
As of Aug. 8, the Saskatchewan Health Authority is shifting their vaccination focus from mass vaccination to an outreach model, targeting those in the province who are under or unvaccinated.
