A public inquest will be held into the death of Geoffrey Morris.
Morris, 41, died after he was shot following a standoff with Regina police on May 4, 2019.
Around 5:30 a.m. that day, police said they received a call from a neighbour in an apartment building on the block near 12th Avenue about a disturbance. When officers arrived, just a few minutes later, they say they found a man in one of the suites holding a woman hostage with a knife.
On Facebook at the time, Morris’ fiancée declared it wasn’t necessary for police to kill him and a taser could have been used. His daughters also spoke out about the death and how it impacted them.
The inquest into the death of Morris will be held on Aug. 9 to 13 at the Atlas Hotel in Regina. Coroner Brent Gough, will lead the inquest.
The first day of the inquest is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Subsequent start times will be determined by Gough.
