Heat records fell in several Saskatchewan communities on Monday, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Justin Shaer.
In Elbow, the temperature reached 34. 5 C, edging out the old record of 34.3 C set in 2019.
Kindersley set a new record with 37.4 C, surpassing the 35.5 C set in 2019.
At Last Mountain Lake, the temperature was 34.6 C, breaking a record of 33 C in 1983.
Watrous reached 34.3 C, where the old record was 33.4 C in 1984.
In Wynyard, the high was 33 C. The record was 32.3 C set in 1989.
“Hot and fairly dry but … at least there’s some (precipitation) on the way,” Shaer said.
“It might be a little spotty but there are some showers currently on the radar over western Saskatchewan that will track across the province throughout the day and night.”
As of Tuesday, Environment Canada still had heat warnings in effect for much of the province, mostly in the north and in west-central Saskatchewan. Air quality statements were also still in place.
