Saskatoon will be requited after a vaccine re-challenge named the city victorious over Regina for most total shots administered.
Earlier this month, Saskatoon mayor Charlie Clark performed a lip sync to “The Last Saskatchewan Pirate” after losing the vaccine challenge for most vaccine doses per capita to Regina and mayor Sandra Masters.
Clark then issued a re-challenge to assess the most total vaccines given between the two cities.
Regina came up short in the challenge, leaving Masters to perform her own lip sync. Coming to a screen near you, Master’s will perform “It Takes Two” by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock.
The song’s lyrics, which state “It takes two to make a thing go right,” is a call to all residents to receive both vaccine doses to protect themselves and their loved ones against COVID-19.
“Thank you to everyone in Saskatoon who rolled up your sleeve, literally, to get vaccinated,” said Mayor Clark. “It is protecting your loved ones and helping keep our community be safe.
“I also was concerned about giving Regina bragging rights, so you’ve also helped us redeem the good name of our city. I know Mayor Masters is going to rock her lip-sync!
Masters responded to Clark’s commentary.
“Mayor Clark, you know it! I love a contest and I plan to win at losing.”
In Saskatoon, 25.3 per cent of residents have not received their first shot, compared to 22.4 per cent in Regina. A second dose is needed for 34.3 per cent of Sasktoon residents and 31.5 per cent of Regina residents.
The mayors of both cities encourage residents who are not vaccinated to roll up their sleeves.
“This is what we need to do in order to go back into our workplaces safely in the fall, have our kids be in school, and to beat the Delta variant,” said Mayor Clark. “The number one way to do this is to get vaccinated.”
“Two vaccines ensure we can get back inside this winter with confidence,” Masters said, adding she’d like to see 85 per cent of Regina’s population be double vaccinated.
“The wellbeing of our community depends on the commitment of each resident to get both doses.”
The final results of the July Re-Challenge showed 60,833 Saskatoon residents fully vaccinated, compared to 46,390 Regina residents.
