8:30 – Does the choice not to get vaccinated put others at risk? Many who are refusing the vaccine argue that they are only risking their own personal health, but the latest research suggests otherwise. A large number of unvaccinated people can lead to breakthrough infections among the vaccinated, and can also give the virus a greater chance to mutate into new variants, which could mean even greater public health risks. To explain more about the risks to public health from the personal choice to avoid the vaccine, John is joined by microbiologist Dr. Joseph Blondeau.

9:00 – The Ultimate Open Lines.
10:00 – With the United States pulling troops out of Afghanistan, many locals who helped the Canadian Forces during our mission there are now in danger as a result. The Taliban is reclaiming the country, and wreaking vengeance on anybody who helped their enemies. While some programs are running to try and get Canada’s allies out of the country to safety, Afghanistan Veteran and advocate Corey Shelson says it’s an “absolute national travesty” that so many of our interpreters and other allies (along with their families) are still stranded without help. Shelson joins Gormley to tell us more about the role interpreters and local allies played in Canada’s Afghanistan mission, and the danger they currently face as a result.

11:00 – A Regina chef is supporting the local food service industry through a food subscription box program. Andrea Robichaud lost her job during the pandemic, and got the idea after watching restaurants struggle. She quickly found local restaurants that wanted to participate, and she’s since had huge success with the first two rounds of boxes. She’s aiming to offer a third round – her largest yet – in the fall, and the proceeds from each box go to a local food-related charity. Have you used a food subscription box, or rediscovered your love for local restaurants during COVID-19? Call 1-877-332-8255 and let us know how your cooking (and eating) habits changed during the pandemic.
