8:30 – Canadian Michael Spavor has been sentenced to 11 years in Chinese prison after being found guilty of espionage, a charge many in Canada are calling trumped-up. Toronto Sun Columnist Brian Lilley says China is playing an obvious game of hostage diplomacy, using Spavor, along with Michael Kovrig and Robert Schellenberg, to secure the release of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou. Lilley says Trudeau should hold fast and refuse to cut a deal with China, even if it means securing Spavor’s release, and he joins Gormley to explain why.

Blacklocks broke the story, and managing editor Tom Korski joins Gormley to share the details, and discuss whether “Teflon” Trudeau will ever be truly hurt by a scandal.

10:00 – A team of clinical psychologists at the University of Calgary is sounding the alarm over high rates of depression and anxiety in children, and say rates have doubled in youths since the start of the pandemic, amounting to a mental health crisis. The team performed a meta-analysis of studies involving more than 80,000 youths globally, and found one in four children worldwide are experiencing clinically-elevated depression symptoms while one in five are suffering elevated anxiety symptoms. The team recommends more mental health supports be put in place to address the issues, and Dr. Nicole Racine joins Gormley to tell us more about her research and findings.
