Saskatchewan has reported its highest single-day total of COVID-19 cases in more than two months.
The Ministry of Health said Thursday there were 141 new cases, the most since 171 were announced on May 30.
There also were two deaths due to COVID reported, increasing the provincial death toll associated with the virus to 586.
A person in the 20-to-39 age group and one in the 40-to-59 age group are the latest fatalities.
With the 28 recoveries reported Thursday, the number of active cases rose to 793 — the highest total since 809 were reported on June 13. The active caseload had fallen to 242 on July 20 before rising steadily since then.
The ministry also said there were 69 COVID patients in Saskatchewan hospitals, the most since there were 69 hospitalizations on June 30.
A look at the numbers
The new cases were reported in the far northeast (29), far northwest (19), Saskatoon (18), southeast (17), southwest (15), north-central (nine), northwest (eight), south-central (seven), central-east (six), northeast (five), Regina (two), far north-central (two) and central-west (one) zones.
The hometowns of three cases are pending.
According to the ministry, 40 per cent of the new cases are between the ages of 20 and 39.
The total number of cases reported in Saskatchewan since March of 2020 is 50,912.
After falling to 27 on July 16, the seven-day average of new COVID cases stood at 93 on Thursday. The provincial government relaxed all COVID-related health measures on July 11.
There were 58 COVID patients receiving inpatient care in Saskatchewan hospitals with another 11 in intensive care. The government said 50 of the 69 patients aren’t fully vaccinated against COVID.
Vaccination update
There were 2,755 doses of COVID vaccine administered in the reporting period, including 1,985 second doses.
As of Thursday, 670,911 people had received two shots and were considered fully vaccinated. So far, 1,439,277 COVID shots have been given in the province.
