The number of active COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan surpassed 1,000 on Sunday — the first time in more than two months it has been that high.
The provincial government announced 143 new cases and 58 recoveries, sending the active caseload to 1,043. The last time that figure has been in quadruple digits was June 8, when it was 1,053.
The Saskatoon area has the most active cases, with 244. The far north region reported 234 active cases, with the north region at 220.
There weren’t any deaths due to COVID reported in the province Sunday. So far, 586 Saskatchewan residents have died due to the coronavirus.
The latest new cases were in the Saskatoon (37), north-central (15), northwest (13), northeast (10), south-central (10), southwest (eight), southeast (eight), Regina (seven), central-east (six), far northwest (five), far north-central (four), far northeast (two) and central-west (two) regions. The hometowns of 16 cases are being determined.
To date, there have been 51,305 COVID cases reported in the province. Regina has reported 12,297 cases, with Saskatoon next at 12,076.
The number of recoveries stands at 49,676. The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases rose to 106.
There were 2,283 doses of COVID vaccinations administered in Saskatchewan, including 1,566 second doses.
There have been 1,446,661 COVID shots given in the province to date, with 676,965 people considered fully vaccinated with two doses.
