The results of the second vaccine challenge between Saskatchewan’s two largest cities saw Saskatoon triumph over Regina — and Mayor Sandra Masters has paid the price.
Masters posted a video of her lip-syncing to the Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock song, “It Takes Two,” online Monday.
Regina beat Saskatoon in the initial vaccination challenge, having the most first-dose vaccinations per capital by June 30. The loss resulted in Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark’s lip sync performance of “The Last Saskatchewan Pirate,” written by the Arrogant Worms and performed by Captain Tractor.
A second challenge issued in early July by Clark had the two cities vying once again, this time to see which city could have the highest total number of shots administered.
Both challenges were issued to encourage Saskatchewan residents to get their COVID-19 vaccinations.
As of Monday morning, numbers from the Saskatchewan Health Authority indicate Regina is 70.66 per cent fully vaccinated.
In her Facebook post with the final lip-sync performance, Masters once again urged residents to roll up their sleeves.
“Regina – let’s get to 85 per cent or higher for full vaccinations,” read Masters’ post. “Let’s keep going!”
Masters thanked Clark for being a “vaccine champion.” During the friendly July challenge, 121,875 doses of the vaccine were given.
“We want residents of our cities to be safe and healthy. If this video gets the message out to more people to get fully vaccinated, then we’ve done a good thing,” Masters said.
