There were plenty of you out there that were already writing the obituary for the Canadian Football League.
Where are those people now?
Amar Doman has now purchased the B.C. Lions as one of the richest men in Vancouver, and Canada, is investing in the CFL and seeing it as an asset worth buying.
The businessman takes over from the Braley estate after David Braley’s death in October but for years Braley had cut marketing budgets and lost the community feel the team had when the great Bob Ackles was president.
Doman is already talking about bringing that back and working with his business partners and friends to boost the Lions back to an event people want to go to again.
But the good news for the Lions is good news for the league as well. People who aren’t big on losing money are still investing, with rumblings around a Stampeders purchase and a few years after Montreal was bought.
Also watch for the CFL financial structure to shift in the years ahead to more revenue sharing. The CFL is the cat of professional leagues. Although, maybe this league has more than nine lives.
