The City of Regina is pitching the idea of reducing vehicle idling to make the city’s carbon footprint smaller.
In a release, the city said about 24 per cent of Regina’s total greenhouse gas emissions are produced by vehicles. The city estimates that reducing the idling of every Regina driver by one minute per day could decrease greenhouse gas emissions in the city by 6,000 tonnes annually — the equivalent to taking 1,500 cars off the road.
In light of these numbers, the city is asking Regina residents to share their thoughts on vehicle idling habits.
“Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions is essential to reaching our goal of being a renewable city by 2050,” said Regina mayor Sandra Masters.
“The City of Regina is committed to taking the necessary actions to move our own community toward a net-zero emissions future.”
The survey will be available until Aug. 31, 2021
