The City of Regina is asking residents to weigh in on vehicle idling.
In a news release, the city is seeking feedback before the end of the month on a possible program aimed at reducing tailpipe emissions.
“Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions is essential to reaching our goal of being a renewable city by 2050,” reads a statement from Mayor Sandra Masters.
“The City of Regina is committed to taking the necessary actions to move our own community toward a net-zero emissions future.”
According to the city, 24 per cent of the city’s greenhouse gas emissions come from vehicles.
“It is estimated that if every Regina driver reduced vehicle idling by one minute per day, it could decrease GHG emissions by 6,000 tonnes a year. That’s equal to taking 1,500 cars off the road,” the city says.
