8:30 – Kevin Weedmark, editor and publisher of the World-Spectator in Moosomin, reported from Afghanistan in 2004 during Canada’s military mission there, and was assigned a local Afghan driver/translator/bodyguard. Weedmark says the man did extensive work with Canadians and saved his life on multiple occasions, and he’s now doing everything he can to get the man and his family out of the country as the resurging Taliban wreak vengeance on those who helped their enemies. Weedmark says his friend – who we’re not naming because doing so could put him in danger – is facing a bureaucratic nightmare largely due to stipulations by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, requiring measures such as a negative COVID test before a flight can be boarded. Weedmark joins Gormley to tell us more.
