The Saskatchewan Roughriders won’t be calling an audible from the province’s guidelines when it comes to fans at Mosaic Stadium.
After the CFL had to reschedule the game between the Edmonton Elks and Toronto Argonauts due to positive COVID tests on the Alberta franchise, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Calgary Stampeders, and Ottawa Redblacks announced the clubs now will require documented proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test for fans and staff. The B.C. Lions announced its support of its provinces’ decision to require vaccine passports for sporting events.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto Argonauts had already implemented similar policies. The Elks and Riders are the only two teams who have not made such a policy at this time.
A statement issued by the Riders indicating that it will continue to rely on the expertise and guidance of provincial health officials, much like it did during the reopening of Mosaic Stadium.
The Riders said it has implemented a list of enhanced protocols for the season.
This includes having specific custodians assigned to clean high-traffic areas, more than 200 hand sanitizer stations have been installed in the stadium, upgraded air filters, hosting game day vaccination clinics and encouraging fans to wear masks.
